Im wanting to get Wireless internet for computer.Right now I have dail-up and I'm hateing it when I play games, and im also wanting to get a xbox 360 and be able to play online. If I could get cable or DSL I would, but I'm like like 8 miles from a town.My ISP offers this thing called Bright Wireless I have already e-mailed them they said it possible for me to get it, i'm just wanting to know if its going to be worth 60 bucks a month to use, and if I can even use xbox 360 with it.I have a friend with wireless and says its worse than dail-up??

I am no expert :p but I would to comment on this.

Well, from what I experienced... I didn't like it at all. I guess it depends where your location is and the quality of the hardware.

I could almost agree with your friend. It was worse than dial-up. Then again it might be different for you. Different ISP, location etc etc.

HOWEVER, what I've heard from my friends. We live in opposite of town, his wireless internet is rather fast and reliable. That's from what I have heard.

I would suggest, give it a try. You can always switch if it's really unbareable. Get a real technician to install it, unless you know what you are doing.

If your friend's using the exact same thing, and he says it's worse than dial-up. Most likely he's right or maybe other possibilities.

Ok, Im think about it.They have a person come out and install it.sad thing is I live like 8 miles away from the tower and when i use my cell phone it has low bar so i think it would be just as bad.

I can tell you my experiences. I had wireless for about a yer. The first 6 months were grand, bandwidth tests showed 1.4Mbps down and up. Worked great for games, too.

Then other people starting using it, and it all went to crap.

If the service is flooded, it will suck.

Make sure they don't get you stuck ina contract before you get a chance to try it.

As for being close to the tower, you'd THINK that would help, but not if its overloaded. I could see the tower from my backyard. Literally.

Thanks, Adrynalyne, for the adivce.Im wanting to figure out how much the Upload speed would be for it. Thats where my friend says he has problems.Cause like when he plays WoW and he hits a button it doesnt send the packet sometimes(he makes it sound like all the time)and causes him to disconnect, but he said downloading is not a problem, its just sending stuff is.Plus I dont what his speed is, I've check out his ISP and they go by level 1,2 ETC(level one more for just browsing and 2 being for games).Im think that he could have level one but not sure, he's never told me.

Possibly, if you are using a wireless network (nothing to do with Internet) and have other things going on that tap the connection, like VOIP, P2P, etc.
