I have two HP Laptops in my house. Recently both of their wireless internet keeps having trouble connecting, or even staying connected to the internet. With one of them i tried an external wifi card (Netgear wg511 54 mbps). It worked for about a week or so, but then the same issue happened. anyone have any ideas?

Check for any possible driver updates for both the wireless cards, and the router or access point you have. That may help you out.

    Try different broadcast frequencies.

i checked, and my stuff is all up to date. Also, i dont know how to change the broadcast frequency. i did notice however that under activity im sending 62,000 and reciving 342,000. I also forgot to mention. that my other computer that is connected through the router with a cable is working fine

If the one that's connected to the router is fine, then it's just the wifi card that's the problem. Check that the drivers are installed. Run the network setup wizard on both PCs.

Do you have an aerial attached to both the router and card if they are far apart?

To change broadcast frequencies go in your router settings or wifi card settings in device manager.

Both laptops have had the wireless network setup wizard ran. not sure what an aerial is, but the router is set up in my basement and im on the second floor so maybe 10-20 feet distance (doesnt work very good on the first floor either) and im seeing nothing about broadcast frequencies in the card's properties. Also, im writing this on one of the laptops, however it is unstable and doesnt stay up for long (also the sending and recieving amount appears to keep going up even if it isnt working, just connected 2-3 minutes ago and its at sending 103,738, recieving 526,607).

Ok don't worry about the broadcast frequencies. If you're on the forum now on your laptop but the connection is choppy, this points to a signal problem.
Do your wifi card and router have aerial sockets?

what does an aerial socket look like? also ive kept the same connection up sending 343.052 receiving 7,056,696. takes along time for a webpage to load

could be spyware, if your sending/recieving a lot while not doing much

Try this to pin point if its a signal strength issue, goto netstumbler.com and download that tool and make a log of signal strength. This will show how strong of a signal your getting and is easier to log then just writing down the windows strength and how many bars this has.
