Hey peeps, got a kinda odd problem here. I have set up a network with two computers, a desktop running xp home sp1 and a laptop running windows 200, i think only sp3. I have a wired network working at the moment but i cannot get the wireless to work. My laptop sees the network but cannot connect to it. I have tried using just the wireless cards software and BOINGO. I have reset all the settings on the router and am not using any security features. Anyone help? Thanks

;) Please don't take offense, but do you have a wireless card installed in the computer that you are using as home base? The hardwire are on one card and the wireless is another on many routers or hubs. The only reason I ask as that just happened to a coworker last week.

Its cool. The computer that i want for wireless which is the laptop, had a 10/100 card installed which can be switched out with a wirless card, which is installed too. the other computer is not connected wirlessly, and will not be when i get this fixed. thanks

    what router are you using?
you may need to fool around withthe router config to get the wireless network running correctly.

also, try upgrading the router's firmware to fix any known glitches or incompatibilities.

My router is a Netgear MR814v2. I have updated the firmware and have messed with the setting quite a bit. Anyone know whether it may be my router? (please say no) If it is im gonna be pretty mad, but anyway. Thanks

With your laptop on, log into the router from your desktop PC, go to the Wireless Settings section, and don't change anything-- just press Apply and see what happens.

Should i have the laptop on wireless card or wired? And what do you think this might do?

Wireless connectivity is at issue, yes? What I'm suggesting depends on the wireless card being active. Don't ask me why, it's just I had the same problem with Netgear equipment both at home and at work, and simply doing what I suggested solved it in each case.
