Wireless keyboard, Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 and big freeze up

This has happened twice in the past 2 days, this last time threatening to kill my PC (or so it seemed to me, a typical non-responder). While using Dragon 9 in OpenOffice, suddenly my wireless keyboard stops working. Hit a key: nothing. Then after a bit when I hit a key an entirely different character shows up. The first occurrence my entire PC froze. I had to push the button to get out.

The second time, the PC didn't freeze up but I had to exit OO, shut down Dragon. I dug out a plug-in keyboard which works but the wireless: screwy. I replaced the batteries in it. But it's like the keyboard configuration has gotten all mixed around.

Is this some bug in Dragon 9? Some combo of Dragon, OO and XP? Now I'm almost afraid to use Dragon. Any help would be vastly appreciated. Thanks. Have no idea how to troubleshoot the keyboard to see if the malfunction is in it rather than Dragon, OO or the combination.

Nuance (dragon producer) in their knowledge base suggests to disable CTFMON.exe as it can "interfere" with dragon. Could this be a cause of the scrambling of my keyboard and the freezing up?

    Thanks in advance.

Does the wireless keyboard work when your Dragon 9 program is off?
