    Hello everyone.

I was on my computer last night, using the wireless connection absolutely fine. I ran a file shredder last night, to shred all of the empty space on my pc, it only got half way through so i aborted it. Today the wireless just wont work!

I thought it might of been the shredding that did the deed, but after having a go on the laptop, the same thing happens.

I can connect to the router, but not the internet.

As i said it was absolutely fine last night, but today there is something wrong with it.

Now here is where it gets annoying. The laptop is downstairs next to the router and my pc is upstairs. So i tried the internet on the laptop with an ethernet cable in, and it works fine! Without the ethernet cable, no luck.

What is going on here? It is so annoying! Please can someone help me ASAP please, because as per usual its broken on the night that is very important.

    Thanks,

    DaPs.

I just did a system restore and now it works.

    Very strange............................

I think it was because of the file shredder, must of been.

The annoying thing i am trying to stop is hijack this and backup files folder loading on startup. I goto msconfig and stop them, but then it goes to selective startup, which i do not want. How can i stop them from starting up and have a normal startup on msconfig?

    Thanks.

When you change your MSCONFIG to stop certain files from starting up with Windows, it will automatically change it to selective startup. (That's what "selective startup" means - you are selecting what to start with Windows)
The consensus here at Major Geeks is that CCleaner is a better tool than MSCONFIG for most users.
I've used MSCONFIG myself for a long time (probably 20 years or more) and never had any trouble with it.
The program CCleaner can remove entries from your startup routine.
    You can download CCleaner here:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Toolbar_d4191.html
When the program opens, click on "TOOLS" in the left toolbar and then choose "STARTUP".
You can remove whatever programs you want to from there.
A word of warning though; unlike MSCONFIG, this can not be easily undone.

BTW what probably happened was aborting your file shreader corrupted your wireless internet connection settings.
System Restore simply reset them to what they were.

Thanks for that! I thought it might of been due to the file shredder. Why is it so slow? It was on for about 9 hours and still had 12 hours to go, just to shred 3-4 months worth of pc usage....3-4 mb a sec.

One more thing i need to do actually. I have the belkin wireless adapter and when i have it plugged in it has safely remove hardware constantly there. I don't think i can remove that, but is there any way i can remove the belkin software and use windows to get my wireless connection?

I have tried enabling the WZC but to no avail, any ideas?

The icon in your applet tray (safely remove hardware) is one of the most misnamed of any icon in Windows IMHO.
With the advent of hot swappable USB hardware the only time you can "unsafely" remove the hardware is when it is actually transfering data, and even then you won't harm the hardware, just possibly lose data.
That aside, I wonder why you want to remove the Belkin software. It simply is allowing Windows to make your wireless connection.
