Wireless Network Conflicts..

I have a wireless network set up in my apartment. So does my neighbor. My wireless connection will cut out, and it will say that One or more wireless networks are available. Is there a way I can force my laptop (XP) to only connect to my network? I really don't want to mess with channels, because I have two OSX computers on the wireless and dont want to mess with their configuration,...

Any help would be appreciated

 

You shouldn't have to change the settings on the mac. To my understanding the range goes from 1 to 11 and you should be at least 3 channels away from the other to get good signal. We configure macs all time and have had no trouble with different channels. I would not broadcast my ssid and I would definately be using wep encryption. Not the best but beats nothing at all. Also, we have found that if you have a 2.4 Ghz phone it will conflict with your wireless as well. I had to go out and purchase a 5.4 ghz phone...

I was driving across town a few weeks ago and opened my laptop to back up my compact flash card to my laptop while I was driving across town. On my way I picked up some wireless networks on the way.....

 

okay - i am willing to change the wireless channel on my wireless router as well as on my windows computer.

i do not know how to change the channel on my macs nic to receive only channel 3, or whatever... any suggestions?

Does the wireless support WEP encryption? If so, enable it and generate some WEP Keys, and use them for whatever computers you have. Had the same problem, used WEP and the computers stick to this Wireless network only. (Neighboor doesn't know about WEP - free internet bandwidth! )
