    Hi all,
I have a windows xp pro desktop computer that connects to the internet via an adsl router (d-link g604t).
I also have a laptop (xp home) with a network card (dwl-g650+), the laptop is connected to the network fine as I can access shared files from my desktop.
There is also another computer connected to the router that the internet works fine on.
I cant connect to the internet on my laptop when I try I get the "page cannot be displayed" message, I can connect fine on my desktop. In internet options --> connections I have no dial up or vpn connections, I click lan settings and have tried checking the box for automatically detect settings and leaving it unchecked.
Also under wireless network connections properties, the box for (tcp/ip) is checked and it obtains ip and dns server adresses automatically.
My laptop has a network ip address as 192.168.1.2 and my default gateway, DHCP server and DNS servers all have addresses of 192.168.1.1
And sometimes when I mess about with the settings on my laptop I can no longer access the internet from desktop and have to umplug router.
Anyone any ideas as to why I cant connect to internet? Thanks in advance for the help :D

Have you checked your router settings to make sure it is not blocking all but the first IP, the one your desktop is recieving?

Also, make sure the router is set to hand out more than one IP.

This really sounds sounds like an issue with a setting in the router some where.

My router is not blocking all but the first IP, two other computers that are connected wirelessly connect to the internet fine, they have IP's of 192.268.1.4 and .5 and my laptop has 192.168.1.2
The other two computers connect to the internet ok, any other ideas?
    Thanks for help thus far

I thought I might try and post the pic to see if that helps clear things up! Kirk is my laptop whose internet isnt working, all the others work ok.

Home is my desktop computer that is connected directly to the router via cable.
Should this have an IP address of 192.168.1.2 and my laptop have a different one?
    Would this make a difference?

Wouldnt know how to change the IP address if i have to.

Sarah is a laptop conencted via a wireless network card (the exact same one as mine) and connects fine, I have checked the settings on her laptop and have matched mine to them but still no internet!?

Also when I turn my laptop on and then click on internet explorer, the interent on ALL computers stops working but downloads (from i-tunes) still work so router isnt dropping adsl connection. I am baffled!
