My wireless network seems to disconnect by it self quite frequently.
When it does instead of being connected to the network that I have it set to automatically connect to, it's says access point. Is this a network setting, driver or hardware problem?

There are dozens of things that could be going on. Your network could be dropping due to your microwave, cordless phone, your neighbors ect... Your problem is not likely Hardware. More likely you have IEEE enabled. Make sure you have that turned off under your wireless network properties. Also, are you even using windows wireless zero configuation utility? Maybe a driver that came with a card not built into the computer? If it's a third party wireless adapter, go the manufacturers site and make sure you have the latest driver. Also, make sure you are not pushing the range of your wireless router. You will drop every now and then if you are on the outer limit.
    good luck
