I have Cisco E2000 wireless router connected to my desktop via ethernet cable and nic card. The desktop has no wireless card. I have a BluRay DVD connected to my home wireless network as well as my laptop computer. My cable modem is connected to the router, and this gives internet connectivity to both my laptop and my desktop.

How can I connect my desktop computer to the wireless network? Must I install a separate "Card" into the desktop, or is there another way of doing this thru the router.

    Thanks.

You can install a card in your desktop to connect it to a wireless network but if you already have a wired connection between your desktop and your router then the desktop is connected to the devices on the wireless network through the router.

That's kinda what I thought. So then something's amiss with my network settings/setup.
I sure wish someone could walk me through it, because I frequently have connectivity problems between my desktop, which runs XP, and my laptop which runs Win 7.
I've tried time and again to fix it, but nothing helps. I must obviously be doing something wrong.

I would like to share files between my desktop and laptop. I'd also like to play videos and show pictures from my desktop and laptop, on my TV which is connected to my BluRay player.

    Here is what I have:

    1. SBV5120 Surfboard Cable Modem

    2. Desktop computer with NIC card but no wireless card, running XP Home Edition and Samsung Allshare file sharing software installed.

    3. Dell laptop with wireless card, running Win 7, with Samsung Allshare file sharing software installed.

    4. Samsung BluRay player with wireless internet connection and Samsung AllShare file sharing software

    5. Cisco Linksys E2000 wireless router

The cable modem is connected to the "Internet" port of the router with ethernet cable. The desktop ic connected to the #1 Ethernet port of the router with ethernet cable.

I don't know how my network is configured, and I'd like to eliminate what I have on both the desktop and laptop, and start over. Sometimes there is no connectivity between the laptop and the desktop, and sometimes there is. Very frustrating. Also..........every time I want to share files between the desktop and the laptop, I have to go into TCPIP on the desktop, and switch from "obtain IP address automatically", to "manually assign IP address". Once I do this I no longer have internet connection on my desktop.

Is there an easier way? If someone can walk me through a new setup, I'd much appreciate it. I'll dismantle the network that I have now, such as it is, and start over. Can I have the desktop as part of my wireless network, and at the same time, retain internet connection, or must I continue to switch back and forth between automatic and manual IP address assignment.

    Thanks in advance,

The desktop is wired to the router and the printer, and the TV and laptop are wireless. Which Network Wizard do I use? Wireless or wired?
