My landlord who lives upstairs from me shares his internet with me thorough his wireless router which is a D-Link DI-624. I'm running windows XP SP2 and I connect to his router using a linksys wmp54G PCI adapter. With this connection I have no problem.

I just got a second computer that has no wireless card in it, but has a lan ethernet card. What I'm trying to do is to connect the 2 computers together through the ethernet lan card, and then share the wireless connection on my first computer so the second computer can access the internet through this conection. The problem I'm having is that when I set in win XP on the first computer to share the internet connection on the wireless card, I connect to the router, but I have no access to the internet, cause the router doesn't assign me a default gateway. Could it be a setting problem with the router?

If anybody has any advice on how I can make this work, please let me know.

you might try and will need to setup a separate wired networkgroup between the 2 computers.
then, run network setup and 'bridge' the connection.

or get a wireless usb connection device and access the wireless computer that way

Or goto lan properties and hardset the gateway address in tcp/ip.

Thanks for the replies, I tried hard setting the gateway address, and I still can't get it to work cause the wireless connection doesn't obtain a lease...

Just to get this straight, the Acess point would connect to mylandlords router upstairs, and then the first computer(one with wireless card) would connect to the internet throught the Access Point wirelessly, and the second computer(no wireless card) would connect to the internet through the access point through a cross over cable.

Also, how does the repeater feature work in the access point? would a Linksys WAP54G also work?

Ok, so I bought the WAP54G wireless access point which can act as a repeater. I connect to the wireless router no problem, but when I connect to the Acess Point with the computer with the wireless card or the computer that's connected through the lan, I can't get on the internet, and I get a message about limited connectivity on the network. I also tried to manually set the IP address and gateway, but I still can't get on the internet with either computer.

If I put the Acess Point into "Acess Point client mode" then the computer that's wired to the Access Point through the lan can get on the internet no problem, but I can't connect wirelessly to the Access Point with the other computer....

    Any suggestions are greately appreciated....

I'm having the same problem with my network. My laptop can connect to the router, but it can't connect to the internet because of the same problem you are having. I'm working on resolving the issue, i'll let you know if I come across the solution.

Let me know if you find the solution as well.

    Thank!

If you can connect to the router configuration page, but not get online, it's likely a DNS issue. Have you set static DNS addresses in your TCP/IP configuration on the non-wireless PC? If not, use 4.2.2.2 as the primary, and 4.2.2.3 as the alternate.
