I need some inspiration (again). I have an old W95 laptop that works well. I hooked it up to my router by RJ45 and it worked fine on the network. However, I was wondering if I bought a wireless router to plug into my wired router and then buy a wireless card for the laptop would it work ? What are the pitfalls ? One thing to be aware of, is the laptop is so old it doesn't have a CD drive nor any USB connectivity. However, I think I can get access to its hard drive by using the hidden share from another pc to copy files across. My router is a Linksys and I would like to buy a Linksys wireless router too. Which card should I buy ?

Just thought you guys needed a proper challenge.

Yes, I know I'm dumb and I could buy a proper laptop, but where's the fun in that ?

I think your only option will be to use a wireless bridge connected to your RJ45 network port. Anything else will need wireless drivers for Windoze 95, even if the hardware will fit, and I doubt you will find any.

If it has pcmia ports you can more then likely find a wi fi card, try newegg.com, i have seen many wifi cards with 95 drivers for them.

As far as a Wireless Router goes buy one of your choice since it is nothing to do with the kind of laptop that you have.

Here is about connecting it to an existing Router, How do I use a Wireless Cable/DSL Router as a Switch with an Access Point?

The problem might be making the Laptop Wireless.
Newer PCMCIA might not be compatible with the PCMCIA Bus of your old Laptop, and I doubt that any provides PCMCIA Cards would have working drivers for Win95.

Otherwise log to eBay and look for Proxim/Harmony RangeLAN-DS, it is an old 802.11b PCMCIA card, it would work with any current Wireless Router, and it has the highest probability the work with you laptop.

    :)
