I have a netgear router wpn824v3 and a number of pc and laptops connected - this pc which is connected directly (ethernet cable), one laptop running linux, one running xp a further desktop running linux, and my own laptop. Now, my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 9400) is dual boot, when on linux it runs just fine but when on xp the wireless has extreme problems. It connects to the router just fine and can map drives to the other machines and transfer files no problem. When it connects to the internet it goes extremely slowly and just stops eg at the moment I am trying to download foxmarks and it got as far as '228 out of 526 KB and has just sat there). I assumed it was an xp problem and I've just reinstalled it so everything is fresh and no settings changed but am still getting this problem. I assume the hardware is ok as it runs fine on linux and I assume (?) the router is set up okay as the other machines are okay (netgear support eventually had me change the mtu but didnt seem to make any difference). If anyone has any suggestion I would be really grateful.........

Sounds like a firewall or dns issue. Check to make sure your firewall is open full. I would set a static ip for the wireless card in xp.
