I have a new BT wireless router (4/5 weeks).BT2700HGV. This morning my wife switched on her Toshiba laptop and could not connect to the internet. The problem is that the laptop cannot see the router or BT open zone which also runs on the router. It can see routers belonging to other people who live close by. My company laptop has no trouble in connecting to the router and can also see bt open zone. I have tried searching for routers and it can never find our router but sees everybody elses. I have tried powering off the lap top but that does not work. I have not tried powing off the router as my company laptop can see the router therefore I assume the problem is with my wifes Toshiba (Virus?) I can connect to the internet by hardwiring the Toshiba to the router.

A common mistake with laptop users trying to connect via wireless is their Wireless switch. Somewhere on your laptop (above the keyboard below the screen for recent HPs and below the keyboard near the base for recent Toshibas) there will be a switch there, make sure the arial icon with the "radio waves" coming out of it is light up, if its not flick the switch. (the toshiba one is an actual switch, however some of the recent HPs have a touch button that sits around the Wireless icon)
