    Hey guys!
Not really sure if this post should be in this forum. But I'll ask anyway.
I've got a bit of a problem with the Distance between my Wireless router and my PS3.
One being at the front of the house the other at the back. I can't really move either and the PS3 seems to be too far away from the router to pick up the wifi signal.
Is there any such thing avaliable that can either boost the signal of my PS3's wifi or something to act as like a bumper inbetween the too to help the wireless signal out?
    Many thanks!

What router? You should be able to buy a booster antenna for it – generally that can help. Position is a big deal too. I find the higher the wireless router the better.

Max distance on a clear shot and through a house is two different things, but you can figure 150-200 feet or so. However, if you have a lot of interference, like walls, concrete that sort of thing, you may have to get a second unit and use it as an access point. Each manufacturer is different on how and what hardware to buy for that sort of thing.

I found a good article on access point basics here:

    Hope that helps.

    Fantastic, That's been very helpful.
I don't know the make of the router by hand but I'll check when I get home and then come back here, The router is quite low down so I'll try raising it up.
Problem is there are 3 walls inbetween the PS3 and the router...

    Ok, to update.
    The router make is Netgear.
I've raised the router up higher but It hasn't really made any difference.
So I guess I am now looking for help as to what I can get to boost the signal knowing it has to go through a few walls.
    Any ideas?

If you want to keep with netgear this range extender is very neat, but all range extenders have to get around your walls somehow. that is they work best with line of sight to both source wireless transmitter (you have to have one of these to use the Linksys or this Netgear) and extended area of coverage. The previous solution of running a cable around the
wall(s) may be more practical. The Netgear I suggested has POE, which means you dont need a mains power connection.

I would like to move my wireless router closer to the TV, but have it hardwired to the computer and modem. Is there a maximum distance for the hardwire cables, or is it good anywhere?

If hardwired = ethernet, the max cable length is 100 metres.

You can normally buy up to 30 metres ready wired off the shelf.

    How big is your room?

    ;)

Note there has been considerable development in available connection technology, both wired and wireless, since the earlier part of this thread.

    Here's my suggestion;

If your wireless router has 11n, get another 11n router and use it to receive the wifi from your main router and connect the second router to your ps3 via ethernet. 11n has more range and penetrating power, so you should get a much better signal.
