wireless router security

just bought a eTEC PT-8505G wireless router....and im trying to set up the secutiry on it so no one else but my laptop can access it..........im using the WEP encryption option..so when it says Encryption Key im having problems entering an acceptable password...i dont understand how it works.........then when i entered the example one in the manel which was AA BB CC DD EE it accepted it...but when i scan for my network (silverbullet) on the laptop it says these settings saved on this comuter for the network do not match the requirments of the network ... so how the hell do i set it up right :S

I'm not quite clear on some your details but a couple of basic points seem to apply here. Your laptop and router need to have the same encryption level (64Bit or 128Bit) and the same key.

You may need to connect to your router via cable to get this setup. Then, you can go to wireless.

both laptop and wireless are using 64bit, n yes i have been using the settings on my router,

The Router's manufacturer is always the best source for troubleshooting those problems; I once had that kind of problem and the manufactur of the Wirelesss Router (Airlink) helped me determine the problem quickly.
