Wireless Router

I need to get a wireless router so I can use my laptop in the house without having to connect the cable. I know nothing about wireless routers. I have dsl, which works great on my pc. The laptop will be used for general surfing. What do I need to look for in a wireless router? What do I need to know in order to use a wireless router (the kind of things that you wish someone had told you before you started to do something)? My knowledge level is very basic, so please keep it simple. Thanks for your help.

Datamation has a good article about what to look for, and TopTen Reviews has an easy to read graph comparing routers.

 

Here's a good article on Wireless Home Network Security. I suggest you carefully read it and I suggest you take the first 3 steps in the article right after getting your new router. If you do not take those steps to secure your wireless connection, a neighbor or even someone parked in a car with a laptop could at least use your router's wireless broadcast to access the Internet with their computer. But, they may also be able to gain access files on your computer.
