Would it be possible to use a wireless router to get internet access in my garage which is about 50 yards from my house with the use of a wireless router and have good results? if so what equipment would be recommended? thanks.

Well I think the max range on 802.11g is around 300ft, without repeaters, over perfectly flat ground, with no sunspots currently exploding, no tv's or radios on within 10 miles, and my grandma has her hearing-aid off, in theory. Exterior walls are going to cut that down dramatically, and the fact you'll be going through 2, you probably wouldnt get a real good signal.

What you could do is run a range-extender / high-gain antenna to the exterior of your haouse and you should get a decent signal.

Linksys, DLink, Netgear, SMC all make wireless routers/WAPs/antennae, but if you need specific models, let us know.

The new XR technology and MIMO routers are really increasing the range of 802.11g. Of course, you pay a premium for the MIMO routers.

For about 75 dollars and a little labor you could run 3/4 inch conduit and CAT5e cable underground ,dont have to go very deep. Might be cheapest and most reliable.
