Wireless Routers

Good afternoon

I have a non-wireless standalone thats connected to Virgin's fastest cable broadband via ethernet. My daughter will be getting a laptop for christmas and my son wants an Xbox 360, both want a wirless connection to the internet for surfing and gameplay

Can anyone advise me please which is the best router to buy. I'm in the UK and have a medium sized houseon three floors. The cable connection runs into the 1st floor.

If you are going to be using the different units on other floors of the house then you may run into trouble with wireless.

Most houses here in Belgium have concrete or stone floors on the first floor as well as the ground floor and if that is the case with your house then wireless is a no go.

What we tend to use is Devolo, it uses the electrical circuit in the house as an LAN and you can plug as many units as you need into it in anywhere that you have an electrical socket,this is also usefull to stop people piggy backing your internet.

thatnks but we have wooden floors here. I will look into that though as there is an out building / office room thats on the eletric circuit but to far for wireless i imagine

 

If its on the same circuit as the house it will work and as for the other units it may not be the floors but the distance, if the kids are in their bedrooms and the router is downstairs there could be a deterioration of the signal.
