wireless storage 802.11g +

Hi everyone

Im a g33k lol but ive been outta the game for a while, well, ive just been bumbling around on my last build....for the last 2 years, so hardware has changed an awefull lot, and i would appreciate a little help if possible please

I wanted to buy my father *67 yrs old but knows an awefull lot compared to many in the age group* a "wireless" hard drive
And so i found NAS.....which is pretty logical i suppose because the terminology is exactly what i wanted.
But i have a big technical difficulty, i have no idea about any of the terms of NAS, and also whilst browsing my normal online retailers, only one had anything "NAS" in it, and it looked a bit costly for what it claims it was or does.....
So like a good geek i started to think laterally lol , as that is the geek way and the personal computer way, well, i started to think about such things as simple USB external units, and a method to connect it to for instance... my wireless router, or maybe with useage of various leads, hooking an external drive to.....something.

But the huge problem is i dont actually know what is out there, and not being armed with that knowledge, im almost feeling like a duck out of water

The goal is to get rid of his desktop entirely, he has no need for the power offered via a desktop, he is quite happy ambling along on his "netbook", he doesn't encode...nor does he do any other intensive work on his machine, also he is fixated by small is beautifull.....which is very easy because well...its true isnt it

Sorry for rambling on, i rarely get to chat tech to anyone much other than one freind, so its a bit like shaking up a beer bottle...and opening it screaming "YEEEHAAWWWW" or something

ANY ideas are good, in fact as many as possible would be awesome, because then i can construct something from it myself, or literally just follow your suggestions

i cannot think of another reason you would sign up a new account and literally just thank me and post two odd replies that say nothing other than smilies!
