Wireless Troubles

Okay, before I get into the thick of it, i'd like to say, i'm very ignorant when it comes to computers, and terms, so please, be patient with me. :-o

Well, there's a wireless signal around my house, that doesn't belong to any of the neighbors, i've asked, and it comes up as "Motorola". It runs good.. for my brother, i've gotten it most too 36mb. But that was before my brother got a laoptop. He uses his laptop in his room and he can pick up the signal with NO problems at all. He can even move around. But with me.. i'm in the other room. And I can hardly get the signal to hit 12mb.. And when it hits about 18-24mb, it doesn't run well. Like it skips or something? :cry

And...

I just have an Antenna my friend gave me, I plugged (more like screwed) it in the little thingy, in the back of my computer, ran the disk. And installed..

well, it sounds like youre connecting to someone elses wireless network which you shouldnt be doing anyway. there really isnt anything you can do about someone elses bad wireless signal...

 

I'm basically asking, why is the signal skipping so much, and when my brother uses it, it works perfectly fine..\

How did I not see this coming.

I asked all the neighbors around me, none of them have wireless internet..

 

The wireless signals have "hot" spots based on interference from walls, wires, windows, hair dryers, cordless phones, sun spots, quality of the wireless card, condition of the antenna, etc. Your signal strength/reliability will vary based on this interference or lack thereof. The differences you are experiencing are usually based on one or more of these things.
