Wireless USB Adapter Problems - HELP!!

I have windows xp on a dell desktop with a Linksys by cisco compaq
wireless-g usb adapter to access my linksys router (WRT54G) that i have one floor below.

i get either a very good or an excellent connection (all the bars) but then it has trouble "acquiring network address" -- any ideas?

The usb adapter is Model#WUSB54GSC -- i see my network, get good to excellent 'bars' but it cant acquire a network address-- the "good" to "excellent" bars vary depending on where i put the usb adapter (Im using the additional cable that came with it to give me more accessibility)

My macbook pro and my windows7 toshiba laptop are finding the router and hitting the internet with no problems

its on channel 6 (2.437 GHZ) - it is the 4.118 driver version

Thanks for any help that you might have. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the driver multiple times, tried different USB ports, etc.

Try to change the Router's channel to 11, or 1, andtest to see if it gets better.

i have a WRT54G2 and had a couple problems. i ended up resetting the router and starting over...seems initial setup and second took me 2 tries. no clue why, it just did.

might try the Linksys website for updated firmware/drivers...just watch out for the LELA updater. there's something wrong with it (goes continually); just disable it in System Services.

 

Are you using windows xp to manage wireless or Linksys software? As said before are your wireless adapter drivers updated? Do you have issues with other machines connecting wireless there?
