hey all. I am going to be wiring a network, but its not a setup that I normally see. ie: One phone line for phone, one cat 5e for hardwire.

In the hotel where i will be setting this up, they are using a cat 6 cable for the phone and internet. I have not seen this setup before. All of the cables are strung and I jsut need to install the jacks. But another strange thing is is that they have a jack faceplate installed in the bathrooms with the cables in behind. They are using the Blue and W/blue for phones, brwn and orng/Green W/green for the internet. They also want me to use a toner to test the signal coming from the risers and switches.

Some of the jacks have 2 plugs, and some in bathroom etc.

If any of this makes sense at all, please help assist me on how to properly approach this.

yeah you can do it that way, you just wont be able to get the gig ethernet out of the cat 6 since theyre splitting it up for phone and network. other than that you shouldnt have any problems as far as connectivity goes. 100baseT ethernet, or the 100mbps connection you usually see, only requires pins 1 and 2 for transmit and 3 and 6 for receive. look slike they were just trying to cut down on having to run a bunch of cable.

Ok, here's the thing. I am not the original installer of this. I am picking up what is left after they have fired the orig crew. They were using pins 1 n 2 and 6 n 8 for internet. and 4 n 5 for phone. I am still a little bit confused about this. if the ones taht y ou suggested are supposed to be used, then y are the using 6, 8?

sounds like a cross over cable instead of a straight through.

You'll still need to wire the keystones(jacks) in some standard 568A or 568B, because the data still has to be on the right pins when someone plugs a cable in there and tries to use the net. I have done this at a small office that only had 5 data drops and 7 phone drops. Just pulled the blue pair out for phone. But LAN testing becomes confusing. Besides toning the lines I'd suggest a ResiTestor

It shows you the cable pairs, etc.
