Does anyone here have schematic's for USB point's & SATA ribbon point's? :confused

I want to create an external USB drive but need info.
I figure I can try putting a USB plug (& wire) on a SATA ribbon, attached to a standard internal disc drive (externally).
Hopefully the bus can power it too. :(

are you just experimenting? or cant you just get an external enclosure?

Ha, ha, ha... :-D:-D:-D It's a bit of both, what with still trying to fix the boot line on my NB "windows/system32/config/system" I thought it'd be WAY easier to hard-wire USB to SATA to DiscDrive... Hoping it'll still power the drive via bus.
    ;)
    I've got part's but no plan's (schematic's).

Unless... There's a way of putting a repair line on FD & then run from boot.
NB is collecting dust @ the mo. :(

    Hi Bi,

If you have the manual for the motherboard or can find one from most any MB made in the last 3-4 yrs you will find the pin outs on the board. They will show you that the SATA is using 6 conductors and the USB has only 4. There are two USBs in the headers so total is 8 pins. You would be better off, as mentioned before, with an external enclosure. I have picked them up new at garage sales for about $2.00. At the store can be about 20 to 30 bucks. Just be sure to get one for SATA.

    Good Luck, Jim

Hi-ya. It's been a while, and I've still to repair the NB.
Unless I can get the NB to boot from flash it looks like I'll be down the garage sale when I've got the money. rolleyes

    Thanx. :)

USB uses a totally different set of protocols and signals for communicating. If you attempted to use a USB plug on a SATA cable, you would likely fry your motherboard and the device you had connected to it.

    Duly noted colinsl. ;)
As I said to jlphlp, it looks like I'm gonna' have to wait until I can acquire an enclosure.
I've ran various "BootFromFlash" app's & get similar end result's.
So now the NB is just sitting there, waiting. :(
