I’m the receiving end of a 2 computer WLAN using a Motorola modem and a D Link DL 624 router. The ‘server’ computer shows signal speed of 400, 100, and 56 mbps while my computer shows an internet speed of 11mbps (the server computer is 2 rooms away). In the past 6-8 weeks my wireless connection has steadily deteriorated showing speeds of 11, 5.5, 2, 1 mbps and often no connection and shows my wireless network connection as ‘default’. Even during the very low very mbps periods the connection is showing “excellent”. Does a wireless card go out slowly or will it quit all at once? Even though my wireless card is 1 ½ year old. does it need to be replaced? Should I, or can I, put a cable splitter from the cable from the Motorola modem and server computer and hardwire my computer? Or do I need to get my own modem and connect a splitter before the cable goes into the ‘server’ modem?

Check to see if there is a firmware update for your WAP, and updated drivers for your wireless nic.

If you want to hardwire, all you need is a 4-port Cable/Dsl router. Cable modem plugs into WAN port, all other PCs plug into ports 1-4. Very easy to setup.

Let us know if you need more help,
