wlidcredprov.dll contains an error

Hi.
Shut down my Win 7 computer last night. It started to install 25 updates from Microsoft. An hour later it was stuck on number 13. This morning - still stuck and had to do hard reset. On reboot, installation of windows updates continued and ends with warning:
"c\program files\common files\microsoft shared\windows live\wlidcredprov.dll is wither not designed to run on windows or it contains an error...."
This message now appears every time I close down or restart my machine. It does not appear to cause any problems.
I have never knowingly installed any windows live software, but found Windows Live Id Assistant installed. I could not uninstall it - got message - "software needed to uninstall it resides on removable media". I got rid of it using Windows Installer Cleanup utility (no longer supported by MS) but dll and error message remain.
I searched hard drive including archive files for another version of wlidcredprov.dll but couldn't find one. Cannot locate one on the web.
Any help appreciated.

 

Thanks for the reply. I solved the problem by looking at the updates that were done last night. MS Games live was installed (why??) and for some reason hung. I removed it, reinstalled and then removed it again.
Your solution would have had the same result - thanks.
