WLM installation problems

I never liked the newer versions of messenger so I always stuck with 8.5. recently I was forced to update as I tried to sign in much to my disgust.

I clicked "yes" to install the newer version and it errored out on me. Fair enough... so I uninstalled 8.5 via add/remove proggies, rebooted and used ccleaner. Grabbed the newer version of WLM from here and it seemed to take forever to install, it got too 100% and then it started rolling back which confused me... :confused




Then I get this:



So I used revo uninstaller, rebooted and then downloaded a fresh file for Windows Live Messenger from here and I get the rolling back stuff happen again and installtion will not complete.

Any help appreciated.

Try this uninstaller from Jonathan Kay here

Or the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool and remove Messenger version you have then run CCleaner and cleanup any temps and registry then re-install again, I would try this installer here

 

Are you saying that the install almost completes and then it errors and uninstalls itself? HUmmmm......

 

Yes Tim. Thanks Dave.. I have used zapmessenger and am now downloading again from the link you gave me, and it's taking so long to download whereas the file from the link I gave took no time at all to download. Oh well... I'll have another go at installing it in a bit.

 

Dave... I double cicked on the installation file and nothing is happening, although I do have misexec.exe running in task man.

This is bugging the heck out of me now. Damn updates!!!!!!!!! Going to try again..

 

I've just got this.... no progress bar..... nothing



then that little window just disappears and i have to end msiexec.exe and seaport.exe in task manager.

Try a reboot and then install again.

 

used windows installer clean up utility to remove all windows live components... tried to install again.... no joy. very frustrating... will do a reboot and try one more time. Need to be in bed in less than an hour!!

I have work to do when I get home then :-D I can''t believe all this fuss just because the latest versh M$ hauled out on us is garbage. Thankyou Tim for finding all that info for me.

home tired from work... head in a mess... downloaded some patch.... tried installing 8.5 again and running it to no avail even in win 2000 compat mode.
Ran Revo, Ccleaner ... used avenger to delete leftover folders from the mess of dodgy installations, downloaded new versh...and voila... I can sign in ....:yum:zzz

 

And did you cancel the download and then hit try again? Was that how you managed to get it to work?

 

oh yes... I forgot that part.

 

I guess it may have been an issue with the installer then. Good to know you have it working!

 

and now i cannot get the damn thing to install on my vista machine. This is rather ridiculous... must have been pure luck that it got installed finally on the XP.

It's telling me I already have WLM installed despite the fact I have uninstalled it thru add/remove... then deleted folders that remain manually, used ccleaner, then picked thru the registry to see if anything remained ... even used revo which reported nothing of wlm to be in existence on my computer... yet when i try to install the new version it is telling me it is already on my machine..
