    Hey All!

Im running win 2000 pro sp4 on my other laptop and have upgraded to windows media player 9 - i also have an ipod hooked up that plays mp3 files . . the problem is WMP 9 only rips to wma and WMP 10 is only for xp . . . is there a way around this? is WMP 10 only for xp? i noticed there are some plugins for this "rip to mp3" upgrade for WMP 9 but ALL require XP as well.

i looked at dbpoweramp to convert wma to mp3 but its 14 bucks . . . what would you suggest for windows 2000 to rip music to mp3? i love WMP 10 for my xp lappy but would love the same ease with my other one . . .

please advise - any programs / wma converters would be appreciated . .

or heck, let me know if dbpoweramp really works cause if its worth the 14 bucks, sure

    Thansk!

Why not iTunes? It rips CDs to MP3, AAC, and Apple Lossless, and will convert any WMA files to which ever one of those formats you want when you select them to be imported. And it will even work with your iPod.

ahh sorry forgot to mention this part - heres what i posted on wpples site regarding my dilemma:

4.8 works great on my new 3.2 ghz machcine but its my old laptop trying to get to work for younger sister . . . just bought her a mini - would LOVE to figure out a way to get it working with itunes - i know comp is below specbut its fully updated and with the way i keep it defragged its actually fairly quick . . .

    win 2000 pro sp4
    233 mhz
    64 mb ram

I had fatal errors while qt installs during setup with my Mini - then tried the advice of some and installed qt 7 beta first, then install 4.8 . . . better luck with only one error during end of installation that i seemed to get right through . . .

but when i start itunes all i get is "an attempt was made to excecute an illegal instruction"

tired if messing with this . . . is there hope? or is it time for ephpod?

    any advice/support would be great

I assume you have already tried winamp?

I know that the minimum processor is a p3 500, but everything else seems fine.

Back in the old days, there were command line utilities for converting cdda to .wav and .wav to .mp3, these tools didn't require the power that the new gui versions require. Then again, I've been playing and using .mp3s near the beginning of its inception.

    May work....

    dbpoweramp is god . . . works like a chizzarm . . .

that plus ephpod and i'm up and running full blown

took 5 days to find the right combo - im really stoked with this one - works GREAT even for a 233 mhz dinosaur

    now if i could only find a one-click method to convert m4p to mp3 . . .
