    Can somebody please advise me on where to get a freeware wma to mp3 converter.

    I didn't do a thorough search of the site, but afterdawn.com has several converters like you wanted, although all that I saw wasn't freeware, there were several with 15 day trial periods. You might also try linkworld.com.

    dBpowerAMP is what you need. Quick, simple, and converts just about every format known to mankind. I've been using it for a year or two and never had a problem with it.
