wmp no sound

Hi,
when running wmp I dont get any sound when dvd or cd is in the drive,
all other sound ok, internet etc only when dvd running get the picture but no sound, have tried other discs still nothing, have checked options and all ok there. any advise

While in WMP, have you checked your sound settings? For example, in Vista:
Go to Control Panel, Sound, “Speaker + Dual Headphones”
Should have green check mark and say: Working
Select: Playback, Recording or Sounds
Double-click for settings, and choose all settings

Go to Control Panel + open IDT Audio (or other audio app), Playback
Click on: Settings, and choose all settings
Then click on: Setup and choose all settings

 

When I lose sound I do the following, works everytime. I have Vista so the steps may be different for you.

1.) Type services.msc or go to the mmc console and load the Services add on.
2.) Scroll down to Windows Audio.
3.) Click "Restart this service" in the upperleft.
4.) Let Vista stop and then restart the Windows Audion service. NOTE: This will stop and restart you sound card's service as well. Which is also what you want.
5.) Exit the console, saving changes not necessary.
6.) Reload your browser, the changes are not in real time for whatever browser you use.

NOTE: Turn speaker or headphone volume down all the way, or you'll blow out your ear drums.

thanks for the reply, sorry cant get mmc up, I get 'console1 - {console Root}
tried to open the folder but nothing !!
all other sounds work fine, cd, www, msn etc only no sound when inserting a DVD ? checked everything diffrent dvd etc sound whilst playing etc nothing
