WMP Problem

When I go to open some videos the media player completely goes green and will not allow me to play the clip. Can y'all tell me how to fix this? I am on XP Pro btw. Thanks in advance.

 

that is the simple case of an incorrect video codec. to fix this issue, all you need are the correct codecs, however, if you try too many, they will conflict and problems can arise. if you have installed any codec packs, uninstall them, then move on to my next suggestion.

once uninstalled (or if you have never installed any), all you need is a codec pack called FFDSHOW. FFDSHOW contains all the basic codecs for Divx and Xvid, as well as WMV codecs. its free, and available for download here

click the filename in the green area and choose a server to download from. Save the file, install it, and you should be good to go

If all else fails and your system doesnt recognize the codecs, you can always use VLC media player, which is self contained and has most of the common codecs. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4674

 

Thanks for the help, but could you tell me how to uninstall the codecs? I am a total newb to this and need a little extra help lol. I just went somewhere and downloaded some codecs before and cant remember what it was.

 

some codec installers will create an add/remove function do uninstall them in Add/Remove programs. try there first. if nothing is there, try installing FFDshow anyway and see if it helps

 

Tried installing FFDShow. It is still doing the same in wmp, so I just downloaded VLC and everything plays fine on that one. Thanks for the help.
