Could any one help out of this problem? Also is there any way to save streaming videos playing in wmp11? Pls help

    Thanks in advance

    Regards,

First of all thanks for so quick reply.

When I click Media guide tab in WMP11. It shows many online stuff. I choose one of the movie link which opens in wmp11 itself. When I see in the properties of running file I came to know that if the url starts with http://, wmp11 plays audio and video perfectly but when it starts with mms:// it only gives sound. Below is the one of the link

    mms://wms.1571.edgecastcdn.net/001571/o/b/wmc/8-12/its-complicated-trailer-export.wmv
    OR

    mms://a1312.v10361e.c10361.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1312/10361/v0001/hollywood.download.akamai.com/7287/wmhd/crazyontheoutside_fre_t_hd_3500.asf

I can see such urls in VLC but it is slower than wmp11.

    Sorry jo' im stumped mate.

    Did it ever work?

When did this start to happen or when did you notice?

Have you made any changes to your set-up?

Make sure your AV or FW is not blocking anything.

    ???

Yes I found it on many websites but it was running OK before 2 days. Also if it is dropped then then there should be any sound as well as video, right?

While playing mms url wmp11 gives sound and not video, why is this?:confused

Could you pls tell me how to check such settings? I tried to figure it out but I did not find and understand that if AV or FW is blocking mms protocol then wmp11 should not have played sound also.:confused

Sorry mate, what AntiVirus and Firewall are you using?

It wont be blocking the protocol or like you said it wouldn't have audio.

Im thinking it could be restricting something on your computer (depending on what you have, some security can go into really fine details when it comes to what can and can't run)

    EDIT:

    What about these...

It was working properly before 2 days. That day I installed Se7en Skin Pack 2[1].0 Ultimate.exe to have a win7 look on my xp. While running it system asks me something like "Have you apply patch to windows media player 11" and I typed "Yes". Later that I found performance drop. So uninstalled it. But from then this problem is occurring. I reinstalled wmp11 thrice but it did not worked.

    Have you tried system restore?

yes but was not successful. is there something missing in something kind of network setting or system settings or protocol association with programmes in the system? I found the similar problems with vista but solutions were not useful for XP sp2.

That skin pack has obviously corrupted something in WMP, i would uninstall Windows media player (you won't be able to remove it completely, just to revert back to WMP9 or 10)

Once you have done that run Ccleaner
(run both the cleaner and the reg cleaner parts a few times unitl it finds no more)

Then restart and reinstall WMP11 and see where you stand then.

I followed your suggestion but did not help me. One more thing for some of the sites wmp11 gives an error like "IE was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Pls try again later". But when I typed such web address in IE8 it opens the website. I am giving this info so you may get any clue about problem as i am not able to figure it out.

Also very much thanks for patience:clap:clap:clap:clap. Pls let me know if you get any solution.

Hey jo' it looks to me like you have tried to install the wrong skin. the one you linked to is for use on computers running Win7

I think you should have used this one http://www.askvg.com/transform-windows-xp-into-windows-7-without-using-customization-pack/

BUT i don't recommend you try to install that either! especially not till your sorted!

    **************************

Did you disable the windows file protection when you installed it, like it tells you to in the "read me"?

    josmith2020 Private E-2

yes it ask me about something like that. Is it because of that? How can I restore that?

  20. ~Q~

    ~Q~ Command Sergeant Major

So you definitely did disable file protection and THEN installed the skin?

    *****************************

I am looking into what files it changes so i may be a few hours but check back frequently to see if i need any more info.

    josmith2020 Private E-2

Yes definitely, then after I let system to install the skin.

I just ran the SFC /SCANNOW to confirm windows file protection. Then I restart the system but still no effect.

Ok jo' leave it with me mate.

I might not have an answer till tomorow though, as im a bit busy right now.

Afterthought: just as a possible fall back, do you have the install disc?

If you do then it could be worth doing a NON DESTRUCTIVE repair install.

Do not go ahead with doing that unless somebody here, says to, AND guides you through it!

Hey jo' im afraid i don't have the time to go into that hatchet job of a skin program properly, but i've seen enough to know that i will be recommending nobody i know uses them.
Im surprised they even came up clean!

I can't think of anything else to suggest apart from the repair install i mentioned earlier.

If you have any important data on your computer you should back it up onto another drive or discs before we go any further!

I should add, you are not likely to lose any data, but it is always a possibility when doing any kind of repair install in windows!
