i have recently upgraded to WMP 11, not sure why because i hate it but anyway, it may be useful in the future. My problem is that wmpnetwk.exe keeps running even though i don't want to share any media and i don't want to build up library. I can kill the process but it soon comes back eating up RAM memory for no good reason because i don't want the flaming thing to run.

I hate that Microsoft can decide to run a service on your computer even though you don't want it running.

If the only option is to remove WMP 11 then i will but i would like to be able to beat Microsoft from running what they feel I need on my own computer.

    Hi

If you goto Control Panel > Adminstrative Tools > Services and look down the list for WMPNetworkSvc double click or right click for properties to open, then Stop the service running and then in the Startup Type dropdown list choose Disable and then Apply.

A just in case....... if anything else needs this service to run it may fail, so just retrace the above and Start the service and set the Startup type to Manual > apply.
