    Hi everyone

I now have windows 7 64bit os installed on my pc and have installed and tried to play Act of War:Direct Action only to have an error box pop up saying...

"The program cant start because wmvcore.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

I have reistalled it twice now and the same problem is occuring and was wandering if anyone can help please?

Are you by chance in Europe, and did you buy the version of Win7 that comes without Windows Media Player (N version)? If you did, that's why that file is missing. All N and KN versions come without that file, since it's a part of the Windows Media Player thing. You can download the "Media Features Pack for Windows N and KN" to get the file, as well as, of course, several others.

If that doesn't work, or if you're not on an N-version, post back with as much info as possible about your version of Win7, including if you did a clean install or if you did an upgrade from Vista.

yes im in europe and have the n version. i got the update you suggested and that problem has gone.
however a new problem has occurred, a runtime error.
whenever i try to play it now an error box pops up that says
    "Runtime error 217 at 001B2E14"
i have looked around on the internet but no one has an actual fix for it...only blatantly virus programs etc...

btw as per your request...i did a clean install where i formatted the hard drive and everything...from windows xp sp2 and now have windows 7 64 bit n-version

At least they're obvious about being virus programs... could be worse. ;)

How much RAM do you have? People who upgrade to 64-bit usually have 4GB or more and this old thread I found implies very strongly that Act of War won't run well on more than 3GB. Try the /MAXMEM flag mentioned late in that thread and see if setting it for 2BG helps.

If you don't know where that is, in Win7, go to Control Panel, to Administrative Tools, and open System Configuration. Click on the Boot tab, and on Advanced Options. You may have to reboot for the change to take effect.

    That worked? Great!! :highfive

Don't forget to change the flag back for other games and apps, so you can get the most out of your RAM. ;)

And you're welcome; helping out is what MGs is all about. As much help as others have given me here over the years it's only fair that I try and give some of it back, or at the very least pay it forward. :)
