I have a wn111 adaptor on a XP machine and have now added a 2nd machine with the same adaptor on Windows 7 .The first machine (xp) runs fine at up to 300mbps but the 2nd machine (windows 7 ) can only connect at 54mbps(the up to 300mbps check box has been checked) .Both machines are connecting to a wn2000 Netgear router .Could anybody enlighten me whats happening or not as the case may be ,
    Thanks

    Hi

Do you have the latest software for the USB adaptor in WN111v2 Software Version 3.0

Also what is your WiFi security set to WEP, WPA2 etc, if WEP set to WPA2-PSK as many are seeeing this get the speeds back upto 270+Mbps

    Not using Ad-Hoc are you?

I have only just received the adaptor for the 2nd machine , and downloaded the drivers from Netgear .It is running WPA2 already .
One thing i have noticed is that the SSID in status windows says Virtualprofile where it should be saying the SSID of my router although when i fire up the Netgear monitor is says the correct name of my SSID ??????

    Hi

On your Netgear Router, change its broadcast channel as maybe someone else near you is broadcasting on same channel with a Netgear also.

Uninstall the adapters driver, remove virtual profile if its in the Wifi's broadcasting list, and reboot and re-install the adapters driver, then open the Adapters Network Connection Properties and click Wireless Properties tab and under Preferred Networks choose your Routers Netowork SSID and have it at the top, can delete any that are not yours in the list.

    Many thanks to Halo .

Did all actions suggested and re-implemented WPA2 and it sprung into life at the full 300mbps.Who would have thought that something as simple as changing encryption would do it

    Peter
