I recently built a new rig and I'm uncertain about the temperature readings I'm getting. I don't feel too confident about overclocking till I understand why my temperature reading seem high, if they really are high. I've given the thermal paste about 3 weeks to cure.

    Setup:

    MB GIGABYTE GA-73PVM-S2H
    CPU INTEL|C2D E8200 2.66G 775 45N R
    CPUCOOLER|ARCTIC P4|ACFZ7-PRO R
    MEM 2Gx2|GSK F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ R
    PSU SEASONIC|SS-550HT 550W RT
    CASE ANTEC|MINI P180 WHITE RT

Realtemp is showing me the following:

    Thanks for the help.

Stange, but I notice that the CPU speed is 2GHz not 2,66GHz.If this is like it is,then the CPU is downclocked and I suggest to go in BIOS and choose load optimized defaults..Reboot to see if normal value will apear. And for the temps value this is good.

I did as you said and it hasn't changed. Realtemp is still showing 2ghz ... but for some reason core temp is showing 2.66ghz

Should I be really concerned about why Realtemp is giving a faulty reading?

Is there another utility I can use to read off my frequency?

Download Everest, install it and in Overclock section will give you the right value.
Also, post the log from everest to see myself.

I use CoreTemp2 for my temps. Everest does not even show the CPU temps on my Q6600. Of course software based sensors may not be accurate, and everyone has their own preference.

You can hunt around and find lots of debates on TJmax and what not. I think CoreTemp2 works best.:cool
