Won't boot, just restarts

I had an Abit KN8 Sli, lost video and no post beep. After receiving 2 dead replacements from RMA, I just bought a new board (Mach Speed MSNV-939) to go along with the new power supply (Rosewill 500), new CPU (AMD Athlon64 3400), new memory, and put it all together. I now get video and post, but as soon as it starts to load windows, it restarts. I'm running XP Pro 64 bit, and you can just see "Windows" starting to show before it restarts.

Where should I start? I already have everything disconnected except the HDD, ATI PCIe vid card, and NEC DVD-rw. Safe mode does the same thing.

If you change your motherboard and CPU you have to re-install windows !!!

I was afraid you would say that. Is that a definate, or can I work around it? The reason I ask, is that I hd problems that prevented me from saving all the important stuff on my drive.

The thing you could do if you have a friend who have a computer take it to him only your harddisk put in in slave mode and install to your friends computer so you could take your stuff back.....

I am my own best friend... as sad as that may be :)
I decided to cut down on the headaches, and setting XP up on a different HDD. When I get that done, I'll hook up the old drive as a slave, and hopefully be able to import those files and settings.
    Thanks for the help though.

Hopefully I'm not too late!!!! You can do an 'in place' reload of WinXP over the top of the previous version and that way you won't lose any programs or settings or data or anything!!! Just boot to your XP CD, press Enter at the first blue setup screen where it asks what you want to do (DO NOT press 'R') and at the next blue question screen, press 'R' to repair the selected Windows installation. It will only reload required system files so the OS will 'see' your new hardware (mainly the motherboard) correctly. You might have to reload some drivers, but other than that, everything should be as it was....

When you boot in Safe Mode, is there a specific .sys file it hangs on briefly before restarting? I've read tons of things about this, and a lot of the time it ended up narrowing down to a specific driver or service that needed to be re/uninstalled or disabled in order to get Windows to at least boot.

Jeez... where were you a couple hours ago? No raisin pie for you Dave! What I did was to install XP to a second drive, keeping the old drive as a slave. Hopefully, I'll be able to drag the stuff off of it. At this point, I'm about to go back to my anti-tech way of life.

    hehe... yeah, right ;)

Ok, I take it back- You get a big slice of pie Dave. As far as I can tell, that worked perfectly. Of course, when I went to "activate" XP, I got the message that I had exceeded that amount of times. With a phone call, the robot on the phone asked me some questions and reactivated Windows for me. Which was really cool, because now I don't have to find a hack!

I don't know about well, but it is better than it was. It cost me enough in time and money to get it almost 100% again. And thanks to you sir, I didn't lose everything.

And for future reference, I replaced the Abit with a Mach Speed board. Never heard of them before, but it's made in the US, lifetime guarantee, cheap, and so far, every bit as steady as the board I paid twice as much for. On the other side of the coin, it isn't perfect. The mounting holes along the one side are a 1/2" off from the closest holes in the case, and the power pins for the case fan are all the way in the front corner of the board, too far away to plug in the other case fan. At least tech support is quick to answer emails.
