When I try to install my dvd writer using the cd supplied with the device, I get a message that the hardware wasn't installed because the necessay software wansn't found. I have the same issue when I try to install the software for a digital camera and mp3 player............any one with a solution?....Thanks

Is the dvd writer internal or external? You are putting the install CD for the dvd writer in a different optical drive?

I switched the cd writer (D) and put it into (E) and the new DVD is in (D). Now I get 2 "new hardware found" messages, for both writers. The install CD is in the DVD writer since the system won't read the info. from the (E) drive, although it does show up when I list files on "My Computer"
The info. on the install CD does show up, but after I go through the Wizard installation procedure, I get the "software not found" prompt.
The DVD writer in internal. I also have the writers switched to "Master" for the DVD and "slave" for the Cd.
I hope this is the info you need.....I'm not exactly a computer whiz

Just went back and read all your posts including the one in Hardware. Both of your optical devices are Writers? What burning program/software were you previously using, and is it still installed? Are there any devices listed in Device Manager as being/having a problem?

What files are on the installation CD?

Please pardon all the questions, but to me, they are relevant as XP shouldn't need any additional drivers to install the devices. The newer DVD burners may need something extra for the LightScribe feature to work, but that shouldn't prevent XP from installing the hardware in basic functionality mode! :)
