wont startup

My computer closed down when i started it i got the message start up repair cannot repair this computer automatically. My details are Acer 3812 win 7 no windows start up disc or original windows 7 microsoft disc. Im told best get a new computer as it wont reboot. This is only a few yrs old and i have info on it that i dont want to lose anybody got any ideas how to get back on to win7 thanks for looking guys. Alison

 

Buying a new computer is not what I'd do.

Your error message is very generic, sometimes a partition table is messed up, sometimes the Master boot record (MBR) has been tampered with, maybe some hard drive corruption. Probably even more causes to this error.

What happens when you try to boot into safe mode?

Definitely, try safe mode.

After it says Windows cannot repair this computer automatically, what are your options--a Next button? If you click next do you get a list of 5 options including Startup Repair and ending with Command Prompt?

Have you tried that Startup Repair and if no luck then System Restore?
