I'm so glad the "school" part of education is over. It was a long 2 years of 2-3 classes per week @5 hrs per class. Put a lot of stress on the wife. Well, I graduate tomorrow with a 3.99 , Highest Honors and Salutatorian.. I have a mini-speech I have to write now and I have no clue what I want to say

    so ...how's you's guys's ? :p

I know I'm going to thank my family for putting up with long nights of me not being there and the faculty for putting up with my constant questions and challenges but beyond that I haven't any clue what to say. Most of the people who are graduating with me are non-traditional students and what can I say to them as well as the younger crowd that doesn't bore them half to death for the 5 minutes that plan on speaking. I don't know.. but I do know that I don't want to be cliche' ..

Congratulations Kodo. It's TOUGH balancing school on top of job and family. I made it to about the 3.5 year point and stalled out there.

I'd start my speech with "Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?", then congratulate all the older graduates for hanging in there with the additional challenges. And thank not only your family, but the others' families for being patient and supportive of their endeavors.

I'd then congratulate the younger students for doing it while young, with their whole life ahead of them, and more time and opportunity to grow.

Then remind them that while this is the culmination of a learning program, it is emphatically not the end of learning. An active mind should be learning until the day it dies. New challenges and opportunities will continue all through life.

Too many cliches in there for you? ;) :D

@Rikky: I have BA in psychology originally but I went back to school for an ASC in web development. The Dean of the software development department asked me to come back to teach in the spring as an adjunct professor :)

@Star.. I tell you mang, 4th grade was tough.. I didn't like getting paste on my hands.. blech! I preferred Elmers glue and that is what I wrote my essay on. "Elmers, because paste isn't made from horses!" :D

Not much of a speaker myself, but since you are a psychologist, can't you just read everyone's mind and tell them what they wanna hear!?!?:p :p

If there's one thing I've learnt in life, it's that the more educated and knowledgeable I am, the more questions there are, and the tiny fraction I actually know. Even a PhD. with a double major only taught me basically how to ask questions a bit better.

Life is a journey of many paths. If you have a bit better 'compass and map', so to speak, for life, then it gives one a bit more scope opportunity, and a bit better toolkit for what you really want to do, if you know what I mean.

    So, congrats once again, Jim!:)

(Now you can concentrate on the REALLY important things - like more 'Kodoisms', LoL!)

Your post reminds me of a lyric, Phantom:

    The less we understand.
Life, eternity, the savagery of man."
