Woot!!!

Finally got my GTX260 going after I thought I didn't have enough power from my Corsair TX750 but I did some research though it is close to capacity ATM. All I did was up the IOH vcore to 1.3 volts with everything else voltage wise on auto! An extra 7.5K PPD @ stock!:cool

It's been stable for a day so far but I'm not going to rely on it. I have a ThermalTake 420W with an 18A +12V rail sitting in the 'junk box' and figure it's a great way to re-purpose it as the max the GTX260 can draw is 150W as compared to 216W being available. Yes, I know about PSU degradation but figure it will work.

Oh, here's my machine:

i7 930 @ 3.8GHz, 6 GB's RAM, eVGA 3XSLI X58 mobo, GTX 470 plus the above. BTW, neither of my GPU's are OC'd as I don't want to push it ATM.

I'm still waiting for some cooler temps before kicking back into high gear with both GPU and CPU folding. Hopefully another month will see some open windows around here.

Yup, but one has to OC their i7 to at least 3.6GHz and fold 24/7 to be able to come in under the 96 hour deadline. Otherwise, one's 60K points royal carriage will turn into a 8995 point pumpkin for 4 days crunching.

I see your 470 is about the same as mine 11000 + ppd but the strange thing is the 480 is not much faster, maybe when my second one finally arrives i will up the production.

 

Hmm, I don't know anyone with a 480 but you could OC the shaders on the card, get about 2.5K more PPD but I'd worry about the heat. If I were you, I'd make use of that lovely i7 950 by running SMP -advmethods which should give you some 6K PPD and you don't have to OC the CPU nor run it 24/7 like I have to for -bigadv.

The last entry on this page has the client you need and links to good guides from Stanford themselves. One thing you might not find in those guides is setting your machine ID which should be 3 as you'll have at least two GPU's. Another important thing is having a passkey, if you don't have one yet I'll walk you through that.

Yes but do you have 10 completed SMP WU's under your belt yet with the passkey? You need 10 to get the bonus points.

 

yep i have the passkey installed on the GPU client.

I have installed SMP with all 8 cores but my CPU is only showing 16% ???

in your shortcut or extra parameters and -advmethods in the advanced section? You're only working on 1 core ATM.

 

on my AMD Athlon x2 4200+ using the SMP2 console client.
"Additional client parameters. Use space to clear." -smp -verbosity 9
I'm lead to believe this newer SMP2 client "knows" what to do,but it may work this way for me since I only have two cores/threads on this cpu.

 

OK so it's pegged at 100% now so lets see how it performs.
