I've seen this in excel where in the corner of the cell there's a tiny arrow. When you click on it you get a pop up. I believe these are called comments.:confused So is there a way to make these pop up comments in Word? I have a document with an inventory list and want to add some info but don't want to clutter the whole thing up. If pop ups aren't an option, is there something else? And am I right with saying these are comments in excel? Thanks

    Hi

Yes you are correct comments are exactly like you describe in Excel, they popup like tiny skicky notes. Sadly comments are not like that in Word 2003 they populate the side of the document like the below image ( note I only have Office 2007 but 2003 is exactly the same )

I was thinking of the route of hyperlinks in specific words linking and opening other word docs with the extra info you want to add, but this seems messy.

    How to create hyperlinks http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word/HP051896351033.aspx?pid=CH063563831033

My easy reply is can you copy the Word file text into Excel and then you will have the note format that is better IMO than Words for adding notes to a particular peice of text ( they are hidden until clicked ), as in below image.

Yes, they are called comments. However, you merely hover over them to display their content, you do not click on them.

Yes, Comments can be inserted in Word, but they work differently than how they work in Excel. I don't believe you can get pop-ups as in Excel; it's a bit more manual in the way it works. I haven't used Comments much in Word, so I don't consider myself an expert on the subject. I suggest you just use Help in Word and search on Comments. That will give you some info on Comments.

Thanks guys. Halo, I think I'm gonna try something like you said. I'll see how that goes. BUT, while I have your attention, I've seen comments in an excel sheet where you could actually make a choice, as in filling in info for an inventory. I wish I had an example. When the comment came up, I would be able to choose, let's say, a specific model printer. The sheet made a really nice template, considering there were several sites with lot's of different equipment. Do you guys know how to make a comment like that, with choices?

Thanks again for all the help.
