    I hate Word 2010.

If I download a free version of Word 2003, would it cause problems having the two versions on my computerÉ (That`s a Q-mark, BTW.)

Word 2010 has moved all the basic functions and I`m fed up looking for where they are now. This is slowing me down and I can`t afford it.

If I download 2003, is it possible to have just the Word program and none of the other stuff like Exel, etc. É

And can I throw this keyboard out of the window É

Could be wrong, but I doubt that there is a free version of Word 2003 to download! :)

Novice, you are not wrong. MS does not offer downloads od Windows nor Office products.
The only thing you can download is viewers. I downloaded a word and excel viewer to a computer running WordPerfect Office Suite so when we get emails with Office files, we can see the attachments.

I think the key word was "free". Yes, you can purchase digital downloads, but even older versions of MS Office are NOT available for free.

Thank you everyone. Looks as if you're right -- no free downloads.

The jump to 2010 is enormous. Why did they have to move certain elements. It makes it far too difficult to use with ease. I think I'll switch to Open Office or take a look at Abi Word.

Update - Goggle Free Word Downloads and several sites come up. I hesitate downloading from a site I don't know, and I'm not sure how having 2003 and 2010 will affect things, so I'm struggling on with 2010..

2010 is a pain. Nothing is where it used to be.

I Googled Free Word Downloads but got no actual website with free downloads of Microsoft Word. A few of the sites in the search findings were mis-leading. For example, the first hit in my Google search was labeled: Free Microsoft Word - 100% Free & Fully Featured. But, following the link takes me to a site which provides a download of AbiWord, a freeware basic word processor which will recognize and open Word files. But, again, the software is AbiWord, not Microsoft Word.

So, again, Microsoft Word has never been a free product. Microsoft Office a big revenue generator for Microsoft; they don't do all the research and development work to develop an advanced office software suite to give it away for free.

I can understand your frustration with Office 2010. Office 2007 and 2010 are a major departure from the familiar toolbar structure which was basically the same across numerous previous versions of Office. If you access to a local library, see whether they have some tutorials on Office 2010 in the audio/video area or in book form. This online source may also be helpful: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training-FX101782702.aspx. Or, do a search on microsoft office tutorials or a similar phrase.

    Try "Word 2003 free downloads".

I know the things are there, but they've put them in weird places and it takes time to track them down. Drop Caps is a prime example.
