I'm trying to type up some things for school and I'm using bulleted lists but my comptuer has gone berzerk and won't do the lists right. This is what it looks like:

    • Topic #1
    • (space) subtopic #1
So when I want to tab over to a bullet under another bullet it won't let me - it just moves the text. It hasn't done this until today and whereas I'm working on final projects I'm not a big fan of what's doing. I restored the defaults to all my bullet lists but it still does it. Any ideas? I'm online if anyone can help - aim: chickachrrycola

This is what it is supposed to be doing:

    • Topic #1
      • subtopic #1
      • la la la
      • lalalala

Hey Steve - that site helped me and now it works when I push the buttons for increase indent or decrease indent. But I used to be able to just push tab to increase and shift+tab to decrease the indent. Any ideas on why it won't let me do that now? Pusing the buttons takes more time than just a simple keystroke...

Not sure why your tab / shift+tab isn't working.

    newgroove,

    Try this:

    RENAME NORMAL.DOT

    1. Make sure all Office applications are closed, including Word.
    2. Click Start | Search| For Files or Folders.
    3. In Search For Files Or Folders Named, type Normal.dot.
    4. Click Search Now.
    5. Click to select Normal.dot.
    6. On the File menu, click Rename.
    7. Rename Normal.dot to Normal.old.
    8. If there are more than one, rename them all just like the one above.
    9. On the File menu, click Close.

Now open Word, hopefully that will fix it.

Before I reinstalled it I tried the repair option but that didn't work either...that is why I had to resort to reinstalling...yet it still didn't fix it...

What version of Office do you have? And have you tried just going to the help menu and selecting "detect and repair". It is a simple option I use and it seems to work.

After you try these fixes, are you trying the tab / shift+tab commands in the same document?

If so, open a new document and try it.

I have Office 2003. Tried the detect and repair but it didn't fix it. And I have tried opening up blank, brand-spanking-new documents and it doesn't work in them either...

I am still looking but not coming up with much yet!

Just wondering if you have more than one normal.dot file on your PC... try searching all files both hidden and system for *.dot files and do similar to what Steve posted earlier.

Searched again through all the files (including those that were hidden) and there was only one normal.dot file and I changed it to normal.old.

BUT! It's still not working.........ARGH!

    I've repaired office...
I've searched the Internet for options...
I've called the manufactuar of my computer...
I've called the store I bought my computer at...
    I've called Microsoft...

...and STILL my bulleted list isn't working (read above).

In all honesty, you guys are my ONLY hope....because I really need this to work. Help? http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

I think we're close.... nice work on that. Try this:

Go to tools menu, customize, hit the keyboard button at the bottom. On the left, go to all commands. On the right find the keys for increase indents and decrease indents. Try to assign them a new key there.

    newgroove <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/089815186

When you go to assign new keyboard commands it wants you to choose a command that is "alt+another key". It won't let me just choose to have "tab" or "shift+tab"....which is what it was in the beginning...
