Hi! I'm new, but I need help. My computer crashed (it obviously is now working), but I lost my word processing program. My O/S is windows 98se. Can anyone assist--anyone got an office program I can download? I am totally desperate. Thanx.

No problem. I have not used 1.1.5 but I am sure it will do whatever you need.

All flavors of Office 2003 require Microsoft Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 3 (SP3), Windows XP, or later.
    Not for 98 SE

Yeah, Toni, I know. Unfortunately, I can't upgrade right now--$$$. I really got creamed with the crash. Lost Java, too. Oh well. Willie

I wasn't meaning that post for you to consider an 'upgrade'. I was pointing out that Office 2003 wouldn't work for you on 98SE to Bladesofhalo
How much disk space do you have to spare for the open office program? These are the requirements for 2.0 & 1.1

You can also order Open Office 1.0.3 on CD so you can reinstall it if something should go wrong in the future. ($8.95-Free Shipping)

I am glad to see you found a download so you can work with your legal doc.s Make sure you create back up disks as soon as possible.

I understand the no $$money$$ for a new computer. I also am familiar with the maximum memory upgrades required just to run internet software for the 98 win and I am sure you will spend about the same to upgrade your memory to run win 2000 as you would for a new computer.

Search for a major geeks forum that will answer a request for what type of hard drive upgrade and if you can run your current keyboard, screen, speakers, printer etc on it and that you need microsoft software pre loaded including system recovery and back up software. Then check Major Geeks support Forum for items for sale you may be able to purchase just the hard drive.
You could also shop your local department stores ie target walmart, for layaway they only require a 10% down payment and montly payments - during the lay away period if your item goes on sale or the store promotes a discount on purchases you can get your item discounted BUT YOU HAVE TO GO IN AND MAKE A PAYMENT TO GET YOUR PURCHASE DISCOUNTED. If they dont have what you want price one from Dell, Gateway, Hewlett Packard etc. and set your own layaway up. I see some sales where you can get a new computer loaded for $400. to $600.

:) Thank you for your reply. You shared many good points. However, I'm doing okay now. I did find a word program, "Abiword processor" which I think may work. It seems to be fairly close to Microsoft's program. Watever works, right? Willie
