wordpad problem

When I open, modify, save an existing wordpad (WP) file, no problems.

However, if I create a new WP file, and try to save it I get an error:

    filename
    Unable to register document.
The document may already be open
    .

If I click OK, it saves it. I can then open, modify, save without problems after that.

I have deleted all registry entries relating to WP, and reinstalled a new copy.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Since WordPad is part of all Windows systems, I'm wondering where you got a "new copy" to install. Where did you get it?

    Hi ya,

    just a quick - E

Have you had a look at what windows opens this file with by default?
Right click (in XP) on the wordpad file and have a look at the opens with option.
Try scanning it with antivrus software just incase...

    Hi again,

hmm...O.k what about the original word pads registry entry, is it still active or getting a bit muddled with the other downloaded wordpad entry? my take have a look at registry - investigate the default wordpad keys (backup registry first of course) and delete all of these and start fresh. See how that goes.

Thanks. I did clean all old reg entrys pertaining to Word Pad, installed the new copy, but no good.

I have resolved this by doing a system restore from about a week ago. I'm thinking I picked up a nasty somewhere, but cannot figure where. On a related noted, CPU usage was maxed out by imjpmig.exe that became active when I installed East Asian fonts from the system software. I deleted that entry from Loacal Machine........Run and that issue has gone as well. This was the only change I have made recently, and I don't see how they are related.

    Anyway, thanks to all!! :)
