I am running vista home premium and sometimes i want to work offline now in XP i can just right click the internet symbol and it gives me the option to work offline but on my Vista machine the option is not there so i have to pull the ethernet cable out (no big deal) i would just like to know if it can be done from the PC.

Are you sure it's not there Bill?

    If not go to tools>toolbars>customise.

no it's definitely not there and when i click "start/all programs" i do not have tools option only "PC help and tools" but nothing in there helps?

I can not show you as it will not let me capture the window with the pop up on each time i try it disappears.

Haven’t you got an icon on your task bar for your internet connection then you right click it and disable the connection. Just a thought.

    That's Firefox, not internet explorer.

You should find the offline option either under file or tools, I see along the top.

Not sure about offline from the start button, right click and look at the customise options.

If you double click on the internet symbol, does it not give you the option to disconnect bill?

    Hi Bill

For some reason it was removed, while you can still disable or disconnect from a wireless connection as in Wildwolfs image above you cannot do same for ethernet connection, which guessing your using, so only ways are as you are doing is to pull the cat5e out or right click the network icon in system tray > network and sharing center > click View Status > then click Disable in next screen, but its a PITA to restart at times as you need to click in Network and Sharing Center then the red X in the 2nd image to restart and repair the connection.

So pulling the Cat5e is better IMO.

Likely weird logic for not having a disable as in XP is that many now want 24/7 connections and turning off the router is a good alternative, kinda feel a suggestion for next version of Windows on this, to make a offline/disable internet/network connection easier to use.
