    Hi there,

Go on easy on me my first post

Im looking for a little advice and help on my current problem.

At work I use my laptop as well as my computer so when im not busy with work stuff i can do some graphic design etc for my websites but this is connected up via KVM switch

I would like to do away with the KVM as its playing up and the screen keeps playing up while working on the laptop.

I dont want to get another KVM switch I would like to work on my laptop via remote connection on my works computer rather than switching back and forth.

Im looking to see what are my options best would be usb to usb remote but I dont seem to see this available, I think my works pc has a spare network socket not being used but I dont want the laptop to show up on the works network etc just open in a seperate window that can be opened and shut down.

Any advice on my best options would be very helpfull as you can tell im not that well up to date on networking.

    Many Thanks
    Leslie

KVM might be the only way to keep the other PC from the network.
You could try a USB Linq cable (used to be sold at lpt.com) or here:
    http://www.linkusb.com/
But it is for network sharing, so your PC might show up. "Might", because last time I used one of those cable you had to brifge the USB linq to the network adapter. Skipping that step may keep you from being seen. But you still would ned remote desktop or VNC. Probably not the fix.

Or you may try the IOGear laptop KVM:

The software KVMs need the network so Synergy is out.

    Good luck.

It is not another KVM 'switch' it is a USB cable with a VNC flavor built in, so no switching, you'd have a remote window with the other PC on your work PC.

    Hi foogoo

Thanks for the replys I had a look at the IOgear usb laptop lead and i think this could be perfect for the job im looking it to do reckon i will order one tonight and give it a go.

Appreciate the info and comments least i can just plug it in and remove it easily when needed then unlike my current kvm which is wired into the desk ect.

    Cheers

Also make sure the other PC will boot with out a keyboard & copy the server from the cable (the cable adds a drive with the software in My Computer) on to the machine and put the server program in startup, that should do it.
