This question may have been asked before on this forum, but I couldn't quite find a thread that answered my question completely.

I understand the basic differences between workstation and gaming graphics cards, one is beter for AUTOCAD, etc.. and the other for games such as Counterstrike. My only question is that I'm purchasing a laptop that will replace my desktop computer in the next few coming months and I'm unsure as to which to purchase as I'm planning on doing a bit of both gaming and digital content creation.

I'll be using this laptop for business, so I'm leaning more towards the Quadro based video cards which I have been told is better for programs such as Photoshop, but I do like the dual SLI capabilities of the Geforce series cards. Anybody have any suggestions as how I would solve this dilemma?

Simply put, can the Quadro video cards play games as well as the Dual SLI?

BTW, on a sort of unrelated note. Is it possible to run a Quadro video card alongside Dual SLI geforce cards? i.e. get the best of both worlds?

Unless you're going to be doing some serious professional developing or using CAD programs then I'd go for a Geforce card. The Quadros arent made for games but they WILL play them (just not that well) Any 7900 series card will do wonders for any of the programs u mentioned, including modern games. Just make sure you get a processor that can keep up with a powerful video card. Core 2 Duo notebooks just came out recently i believe as well as the Turion X2 mobile processors; either should do just fine. And no, i dont believe you can run both a Quadro and Geforce card at the same time

Bleh, I just do a bit of photoshop, video editing and things like that. I'd just like a bad ass gaming system in the process as well if I'm spending quite a bit of money onto a high end laptop.

OH well, I'll leave that for a desktop I guess.

When you say Quadro will play games not that well, what exactly do you mean?

I'm not sure of the exact technical differences but you maybe interested in some of the new laptops that are coming out with SLI and 19" LCD's (even quad core) for buisness which I am certain will be more than sufficient to undertake your technical buisness requirements but be an extreme gaming system at the same time. I got a 50% right of last year from the accountant for my previous system (PC2) because I, hmmmm, bring reports home to work on them, lol, LOL. Now I have PC1 in the process.

Type in SLI laptop into "Google". I'm a scientist and basically any sick gaming machine will be more than proficient for the highest works demands I put on it (complex mathematics, modelling, statistics). I can freeze some of the works PC or have to walk off and make coffee, have a cigarette, twiddle my thumbs and then finally get an answer (then if it's wrong, bugger). Yet my home PC will move.
