    Hey,

I posted a thread like this but I can find it... hmmm, so i'll sum it up.

I've seen Workstations around, they have Server hardware, such as CPUs and RAM.

    What are they for?

Also, what are those Workstation Quadro cards good for (they are so expensive).

We have our engineers using Intellistation Z Pros, which have Xeon processors, ECC RAM and a SCSI RAID implementation. We have them using these because they were cheap! LOL. Because they are heavy into 3D CAD drafting, they need a high-perf system with a high-end video card (Like the Nvidia Quadro) to render their 3D models.

    So graphics design?

What's the server ram and cpu do to help that?

Well, drafting and cost effectiveness were OUR reasons for using server hardware as a workstation, but it all depends on the planned use and environment of the machine. I only posted this as an example. I don't think the server hardware gives them any benefit over equivalent desktop hardware. I was just givign the reasons why we used it.

I don't understand how they are cost-effective, when they use server hardware, but thank y'all for your replies.
