That's me with the ugly manniquin. (The manniquin is the one without legs). Found her during our visit to "nirvana" aka the West Kootenays.

Hey BCGray. The weekend was great, but too short. We got there fairly late Friday night, but managed to party for a while, then spent Saturday in Nelson, had to go to "Holy Smoke" to donate to their legal defence fund. Then Saturday night in the hot pools, then more partying at the house. BC will already know this, but the rest of you guys should go there and see the colours in the Fall. Incredible is an understatement. However, the wind off the lake is freaking cold at that time of year, so bring your long underwear.

Couple of pics. The first is from the ferry coming into dock at Balfour, the second is a view of Kootenay Lake from the Gathering House.

Glad you had a great time in my backyard sibeer, see yea pick on the chicks that can't run away hey, right outside the old Woolworths store on Baker St. Took me awhile to figure out exactly where that shot was taken. Yea my friends in the Kooties were telling me about the cold snap. Yea the NCP did there thing awhile back on "Holy Smoke", you'd think they would learn, as they have tried two times in the past and failed, even had a judge reprimand them. One of the co-owners lives just down the road from me in Balfour, great guy. It's been frigging -10c up here in Quesnel, oh how I wanta go Home, Thanks sibeer

Just posted this and saw "My" Lake dang now I want go home even more great shots sibeer

It's been -14C here in Cranbrook up until the last day or so. We've had snow and warmer since. Now it's raining so it's a sloppy mess outside.

    Sibeer,
really beautiful, but that is the most bizzare shot. The sun has gone down behind the mountains, but it's golden light is still reflecting on the water. Great shot, really!

Hmm, I hijacked my own thread. It was supposed to be about the girl with no legs.;)
Besides that, my wife took the pics and not me. She thanks you guts for the compliments.

Man you guys out there are lucky. I gotta make my way out west. Living here I always forget how beautiful our country is.

As for ugly manniquins they are a dime a dozen around here.

We got a lot of those ugly statue things you dress up and put in store windows also. :)

    Sibeer,
I`m an Englishman living in Scotland now, but when I saw the name Cranbrook it took me back to my Army days. We were on exercise in Alberta, all the way from Germany, and were lucky enough to have a few spare days of free time at the end. So three of us hired a car, and basically went whichever way the nose was pointing each morning. Somehow we ended up in Cranbrook, right in the middle of "Sam Steele Days". What a time we had, and if any one there is old enough to remember the three crazy Englishmen, then please thank them for a great welcome!
For years I cherished my Sam Steele glass mug, but unfortunately it got broken. However that will never erase the true hospitality and friendship shown to us by those good people of Cranbrook!

    Thanks.

    Harry.

Good to meet you Harry. You were here in June. Too bad about the mug. They don't have 'em any more. Now it's beer in a can. Still a pretty good time though. I posted here after the last Sam Steele Days...Something to do with the dance floor awash with scantily-clad young girls dancing together...but I digress. Had you continued on you would've gotten to the lake in the pictures. Couple of hours west of Cranbrook.

I may well have been on that lake, as I remember we drove along this road and came to a place where the road just ended at the lake side. We were about to turn round when we noticed other cars waiting, so we waited as well until this ferry came along. We just followed the crowd onto the boat, and I seem to think the journey to the other side took about one and a half hours.
Precisely where we ended up is a mystery, but I seem to recall a
town up in the mountains where the first language was German, but the name escapes me. Time and the consumption of a great deal of Canadian beer certainly blurs memories!
It was a real eye-opener, and a time I treasure greatly.

    Harry
